Honestly in single player a dino wipe is just needed from time to time to fix spawns, they either over spawn or quit all together. Also it's a good idea to do a wipe when events that have dinos spawn with crazy colors so you can get the most out of them. Nope, they'll respawn pretty quickly when you head to new areas.

Do a wild Dino wipe. It resets the spawn timers on tames. Beavers on the island are a very rare spawn and dams are even rarer. On SP you need to wild Dino wipe each time you log in and each time you are about to leave your base. It's faster than you waiting for the beavers and dams to reappear.
